DU QUOIN - John T. Halstead, 83, of Du Quoin, formerly of Elkville, passed away at 11:20 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, 2025. at his residence.John had worked as a welder, truck driver and pumper for 32 years at Consol Mine; a machinist for the Southern Illinoisan; a police officer for SIU and Elkville Police Chief. He had trained as a teletype operator in graphic arts in Nashville, Tennessee, and New York.He was a member of Elkville Christian Church. John was also a member of Du Quoin Masonic Lodge, Ainad Shrine and UMWA.He was born March 22, 1941, in Du Quoin, the son of John Weldon and Jewel Dean (Stelle) Halstead.He married Judith Kay Knowles on July 5, 1959, in Elkville, and she preceded him in death on April 30, 2006. He then married Johnnie P. (Morgan) Miller on March 31, 2007, in Elkville and she survives.He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin; three children, Marilyn Halstead and husband Henry Stockton of Elkville, Amy Halstead and Kirk Parrish of Dunnellon, Florida, and Erin Willia
