MARION - Mary Kay Bachman, 74, of Marion passed away at St. Louis University Hospital on Feb. 13, 2025.Mary Kay retired from the Illinois Department of Human Services. She worked at Choate Mental Health as chief of social work. She worked previously as regional administrator for DHS. In addition, she was also an executive director of The Carbondale Women's Center.Mary Kay graduated from Edwardsburg High School and then graduated Grand Valley State College with a Bachelor's Degree. She then graduated Southern Illinois University School of Social Work with a master's degree in 1995. In 2009 she was named distinguished alumni of Social Work. She was named district social worker of the year, and served as district chairperson for the National Association of Social Workers from 1998 to 2000.She loved to travel with her husband and to sail.
